Really, one of the most complicated tasks for critics is to qualify someone else’s work, as it is similar to the examiner who has to analyze what a student has studied, who has made a series of efforts to get to the test dates on time. This is where the difficulty of negatively analyzing a work that has involved an effort comes into play, since making a film is not exactly an easy task. The problem is when such a proposal that needs to be evaluated produces feelings that are completely opposite to what it should and, what’s more, it is difficult to avoid arousing a little anger.

That’s what it happens with ‘Space pajamas’, a romantic comedy that looks like a strange bet on Clara Martínez-Lázaro’s experimental cinema, which after four feature films is still unable to offer circular work. It goes without saying that this project plays with the world of dreams, which allows it to have certain licenses in narrative terms, such as breaking the line of continuity or blurring the plot at certain points. However, Although it may be a game, a trompe l’oeil that shows the seams of the cinema through a romantic comedy, the director does not seem to know what she wants to tell.
This causes it the film is a sensational continuation of sketches, each more absurd, which ends up transforming the spectator’s perplexity into satiety. The sequences themselves add nothing, not even in a metaphorical sense. By the time the director, who also writes the script, manages to explain what his main partner’s daydreams mean, the audience has already disconnected from a logic-less story. It gives the impression that Martínez-Lázaro wanted to emulate ‘An optical effect’, Juan Cavestany’s surreal comedy. However, the director of ‘Vote Juan’ leaves some tools to understand that what he saw would not have followed any logic.

A nonsense romantic comedy
Despite the fact that Mariona Terés and David Pareja have an understanding as a couple, it is useless if it is used for not very funny sketches, with scenarios that betray its low cost, which makes it convey a certain sense of amateurism, which is inappropriate for those who have three other films behind them. Keeping in mind that the film quickly brings its story to audiences, little can be defended by a seemingly proposition It was a good idea on paper, but something got lost along the way during filming.

“Space Pajamas” can be used as a home movie to watch with friends. Now we are talking about the fourth project for the cinema of a director who has so far failed to propose a proposal that has a minimum. Yes, it manages to be somewhat better than “Aging and Other Troubles”, another forgettable production, but it started from a very low point, which makes it useless. It is true that the Spanish comedy has been in crisis for a season, but ‘Space Pajamas’ is on a different level and not quite for the better. Despite the commendable effort of its main tandem, the tape doesn’t work at all, causing a feeling of frustrationWell, as we said before, making a project for the theater is not an easy task.
Note 3
The best: Its main duo, Mariona Terés and David Pareja, deserve a romantic comedy at their level.
Worse: A logic-less script, overly economic scenarios, secondary characters who contribute like nothing … the list is long.
