‘Lightyear’ is going to be a torment compared to what can come with ‘Baymax’, the series of short films that bring back to life the adorable robotic assistant from ‘Big Hero 6’. The series is now available on Disney + and consists of six chapters, each dedicated to a person to whom Baymax offers his help as he did with Hiro in the 2016 film. One of them is dedicated to Sofia, who according to the description, is a girl who is “going through a big life change”. That change is menstruation.

Sofia is overwhelmed because it is her first period and asks Baymax to go get her “tampresas”. Baymax leaves to bring its menstrual hygiene products. A clip from the series is already circulating on the Internet in which the protagonist sees herself in front of the large selection of tampons and tampons in a supermarket, and asks a woman which one she recommends. Soon he is surrounded by several people who also have suggestions, among them a character who carries the trans flag on his shirt and who recommends winged wraps.

In this way, Disney not only makes a trans man visible, but also shows that he can have periods as well. In the previous moments of the chapter we also see how the Sofia school bathroom is for all sexes. We are obviously talking about a very small representation, centered on a secondary character and lasting a few seconds. But we’ve already seen the hustle and bustle that a kiss between two women in ‘Lightyear’ was able to create. Pixar’s “Red” also faced criticism from the more archaic and conservative industry for including a joke about menstruation.. But being something that a large part of the population will eventually experience in their own lives, it’s always a great idea to start normalizing it in family content and for families to lose the fear of talking about something as natural as the rule.

A more diverse San Francisco

In the press conference of the series, said Don Hall, the director of “Big Hero 6”. ‘Baymax’ San Fransokyo is “more diverse and inclusive” compared to that of his film and considers it “the place where we should live in today’s world”. Producer Roy Conli added: “I hope Baymax and the rest of the characters inspire the audience. Let them stop and think for a moment about how important it is to take care of each other as a community and enjoy a series that teaches us to learn from there. ‘each other. It’s fun and exciting to see how people can connect with different people. “.

All six episodes of “Baymax!” are now available on Disney +.
