Last week, that villain was revealed in the upcoming sequel Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse is the Spot character, and is voiced in the movie by Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore). The unique character is an art-inspired villain, and the sequel’s directors recently spoke to Cartoon Brew (via ComicBook) about what Spot brings to the table. Joaquim Dos Santos said Spot has always been the piano and that he has a great way of bringing art to life, adding:

“We knew early enough that Spot was going to be our main villain,” Dos Santos explained. “Without a fantastic villain, which you can somehow understand with their line, you don’t really have a strong story for your main character. So he’s kind of a fantastic opposite of Miles. And his living ink is really just, I think that. We all said it’s not just an effect. It’s art that comes to life. It’s something that can only really happen in animation. You can imagine Spot as a guy with a sock in a live-action Spider-Man movie. It won’t work. . It just won’t work. Then the art comes to life. It’s the inkwell spilled on the page. It all goes back to some sort of comic book and comic book drawings. “

Powers of Kempone of the film’s other directors went on to say that a villain like Spot gave Spider-Verse a lot of potential when it comes to history and style, saying:

“From the start it seemed like infinite potential, both visually and in the character arc. Because you know by the way that it’s not a costume, that’s his skin. From the way he wears it, you know he’s not a boy. in a polka dot dress. It’s actually her skin. So you know, Dr. Ohnn Spot’s story arc is really complementary, without revealing the story, it completes Miles’ journey really well in this movie. “

Are you looking forward to seeing this intriguing new character on screen? Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse arrives in theaters on June 2, 2023.
