Some years ago Quentin Tarantino was developing a Django Unchained And Zorro crossover movie titled Django / Zorro with Jerrod Carmichele. The project was based on a comic series that Tarantino wrote with Matt Wagner. Well, it turns out that Tarantino wanted Antonio Bandera to star in the film and even proposed the concept to him!
Banderas recently shared in an interview with USA Today: “He spoke to me, I think on Oscar night (in 2020) when I was nominated for ‘Pain and Glory’. We met at one of those parties. me and i said, “In your hands? Yeah, dude! “Because Quentin has a nature to make that kind of movie and give it quality. Even if they’re based on those B-movie types from the 60s and 70s, he can take that material and do something really cool. . We ‘ve never worked together, but it would be great for him, for Jamie Foxx and for (playing) Zorro again when he is a little older. It would be great, fun and crazy. “
The story for Django / Zorro takes place several years after the events of Django Unchained and here’s the synopsis: “The official sequel to Django Unchained, which unites the ruthless western hero with the legendary swordsman of literature, cinema and comics: Zorro! Set several years after the events of Django Unchained, Django once again pursues evil men in his role as a bounty hunter. Traveling through the streets of the American Southwest, he meets by pure chance the elderly and sophisticated Diego de la Vega. Django is fascinated by this unusual character, the first rich white man he has met who seems totally indifferent to his skin color … and who can stand up in a fight. Django takes over as Diego’s bodyguard and is soon embroiled in a struggle to free the local natives from brutal servitude. Learning a lot from the older man (as he did from King Schultz), he discovers that slavery is not unique to his people as he even wears the mask of Zorro on his mission of mercy!
I sure would have loved to have seen this film made and seeing Banderas reprise the role of Zorro would have been pretty damn awesome! I guess there is still a chance it could happen someday. We just have to wait and see!
