The long awaited Street fighter the film is shaping up to be a hit and a WWE superstar Cody Rhodes he’s here to make sure. The WWE champion steps into the role of Guile, the US Air Force pilot and fan-favorite fighter known for his signature sonic booms, and is teasing a film packed with intense, hands-on action.
During a recent chat with Pat McAfee, Rhodes gave fans their first real taste of what’s to come from this new take on one of gaming’s most legendary franchises.
“I was a firm believer that anything that’s a stunt, I want to do it. If that requires me to be on these wires, I want to do it. If you put another guy in the corner that I know is going to take the shot next, I still want to go for it.”
This level of commitment is exactly what fans want to hear, especially from someone playing one of the most physically demanding characters Street fighter universe. Rhodes went on to praise his castmates and the tone on set, revealing who will be the protagonist of the story.
“Noah [Centineo]Callina [Liang]AND [Andrew] Koji, who are the three protagonists, [are] incredibly good actors, who take it so seriously and are there to work every day. Then there’s me, 50 Cent, Andrew Schultz and Roman. We were able to play.”
This confirms that Ryu (played by Andrea Koji), Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) and Chun-Li (Callina Liang) will star in the film, while Rhodes joins a supporting cast that includes Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, and Jason Momoa as Blanka.
Set in 1993, the film’s story sees fighters Ryu and Ken forced to battle when Chun-Li recruits them for the upcoming World Warrior Tournament, a brutal clash that hides a darker conspiracy. The trio must face their pasts, rivals, and the lethal power of Shadaloo, or risk losing everything.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, Street fighter aims to capture the spirit of the beloved Capcom series while delivering a big-screen spectacle filled with roundhouses, Hadoukens, and hands-on fight choreography.
If Rhodes’ passion for his stunts is any indication, fans can expect authentic, bone-crushing action, not just CG mayhem. This new one Street fighter could finally give the franchise the cinematic justice it deserves.
Street fighter will be released in theaters on October 16, 2026.
