James Gunn explains Krypton’s controversial Twist

Fans were divided on this decision. While Gunn is right that not every version of Jor-El is purely noble, this marks the first time that a live Superman film has leaned on a morally questionable vision of his Kryptonian inheritance.

The film also raises the question if Lex Luthor may be false the message, but it is clarified throughout the story that the message is authentic. That revelation becomes the heart of Superman’s inner conflict, forcing him to face the truth about his family and what it means for his identity.

For Gunn, it was not a question of making the bad guys of Superman’s parents. Instead, he sees it as a turning point that adds complexity without changing the fundamental values ​​of the hero:

The creative choice can be divisive, but opens the door to a more stratified version of the character. Instead of the usual black and white morality, Gunn is giving fans a superman whose past complicates his present directly, making him more compelling than ever.
