Fantastic and brutal first trailer for Netflix’s last samurai

Netflix has just unleashed the fantastic first trailer for his next series Last samurai standingAnd it looks like a wild mashup of Shogun AND Play of squid. The show launches almost 300 warriors in a deadly survival game in which the prize is luck and freedom and the cost is blood.

The rules are brutally simple: each fighter transports a wooden tag and anyone can steal them enough and get to Tokyo, moves away with the massive cash prize.

The trailer makes fun of the chaos, carnage and despair of men willing to risk everything in a world where honor meets despair.

Set at the end of the nineteenth century during the Meiji period, the story follows Shujiro Saga, played by Junichi Okadawhich joins the deadly competition in the Temple of Tenryuji in Kyoto. His reason is personal and is determined to win the cash prize to save his sick wife and son.

The official synopsis reads: “Under the veil of the night, the land of the temple are full of discomfort and the presence of bloodthirsty warriors. When the signal is given to start the game, the fighters launch themselves in their relentless battle for survival”.

With over 1,000 cast members and crew involved, the production went on a scale and authenticity. According to Netflix, the series “pushed the boundaries of visual narrative, merging the modern progress of the CG with practical effects to offer some of the most realistic and visceral action scenes ever seen in Japanese television”.

When the show was announced at the beginning of this year, the head of the content of Netflix Japan Kaata Sakamoto explained that the series aims to reveal a different side of the history of Samurai

“When most people think of Samurai, they think of this very glamorous period in Japanese history,” he said to Variety. “But what many people do not realize is that, towards the end of the Edo period, the samurai have lost much of their glamor and their power.

“Last samurai standing It concerns what would happen if these warriors – the most difficult and the best in Japan – suddenly became ordinary people and had to fight for their lives “.

It looks like a great series and the trailer clarifies that it will not avoid the show soaked in blood.
