Pacifier Season 2 has just made a large jump shrug for the continuity of the DCU. Episode 3 dives in the past of Rick Flag Jr. and, in doing so, rewrites the key elements from David Ayer2016 Suicide Squad. The result is a Retcon that effectively erases Ayer’s film out of the canon or at least reformulates it in a way that makes it incompatible with the current time sequence.
The episode returns to a moment between Rick Flag Jr. and Emilia Harcourt, where Rick opens on his girlfriend, June Moone. Mint randomly: “It is a sorceress who could dig a hole on the planet if we had left us”.
In Ayer’s Suicide SquadJune was freed by the enchanting by the end of the film and was apparently helpless. Pacifier He reveals that he still had his magical skills, which completely contradicts the events of the 2016 film.
The positioning of the temporal sequence of this flashback makes it even more significant. Harcourt tells Rick that he is leaving Maltese in a few hours, putting the scene right before the mission seen James Gunn’S 2021 Suicide.
The episode even repeats the movies of that film, showing the fatal betrayal of Peacemaker’s Rick. This firmly binds Gunn’s film to the DCU as it resved what had happened before.
What makes Retcon interesting is the way in which Rick and June’s relationship reformulates. In the version of Ayer, Rick fought with the possession of junes by the enchantress, but his powers had presumably passed to the ending.
Making Rick recognize it as a sorceress still active PacifierIt suggests the 2016 plot or has never occurred or played in a very different way from what we have seen on the screen.
This is not the first time that Peacemaker has folded the continuity of the DCU for laughter or narrative freedom. The first season had that infamous bavaglio of the Justice League, which has already mentioned a freer approach to past films.
Now, with season 2, episode 3, the show seems to be a real part of parts of the old Dceu while the new Gunn DCU takes shape.
It is becoming clearer that Gunn and the company are not considered to cut Ayer or the 2016 Suicide Squad. Instead, they are using Pacifier To clean up continuity and align everything closer to the vision of Gunn of the DCU.
Whether the fans see it as a correction of the necessary course or a dismissal of Ayer’s work, it is a great moment that remodes the way we look at the story of the suicide on the screen.
