The conversation around Pixar’s Lightyear And his pair of the same sex was re -emerged thanks to some observations from Snoop Dogg which is not foreseen. The rapper recently admitted that he was seized by the film kiss of the film and by the fact that the couple has a child, unleashing an online backlash and a response from the writer Lightyear Lauren Gunderson.
Snoop explained that the moment left him confused when his nephew asked how two women could have a child. He recalled: “I didn’t enter this shit. I just came to watch the damned movie”, later adding, “he made me a bit of a little … I’m like, I’m afraid to go to the cinema. You all throw me in the middle of the shit so I don’t have an answer.”
His comments aroused strong criticisms, with some fans even who asked him to be removed from the execution to the Australian AFL final. The podcast segment in which he made the comments was originally modified, but the clips reappeared online after the accusations of a “cover -up”.
In response to the recourse, Snoop shared a message on Instagram that played as an apology and a recognition of not being prepared. “I was just caught off guard and I didn’t answer for my grandchildren,” he wrote.
“All my gay friends [know] What happens. They called me with love. My evil not to know the answers for a 6 -year -old boy. Teach me to learn. I’m not perfect. “
In the meantime, Gunderson, who was part of the Pixar team that developed the story, directly faced the controversy by firmly behind the decision to include the lesbian relationship.
“So. I created the Lesbian Lightyear. In 2018, I was a Pixar writer – such a beautiful place, grateful to work there, I learned a lot of kind and impressive creatives. While we wrote the first versions of what became Lightyear, a key character needed a partner and it was so natural to write ‘she’ instead of ‘him.’
He continued: “As far as the detail is in the film, I knew the representative effect he could have had. Small line, big problem. I was euphoric the fact that they kept it. I am proud of it. For the infinite. Love is love.”
Lightyear It was released in 2022 and, although it has obtained positive reviews, the film has submitted to the box office with only $ 226 million all over the world, losing Disney and Pixar about $ 100 million.
Part of the reason came to the harsh competition from Dominion of the Jurassic world AND Top Gun: MaverickBut the study also faced internal struggles. Reports revealed that Disney managers initially prompted to remove the openly LGBTQ+ representation before employees went back, leading to reintegration of the kiss.
The dispute on Snoop’s comments rekindled the discussion on the cultural impact of the film, above all because Gunderson’s creative choice always concerned the normalization of the representation.
While Snoop asked for understanding and education, Gunderson’s position remains clear.
