For years, Stephen KingThe stories made fun of the fans with an interconnected network of characters, cities and cosmic horrors. From the cursed streets of Castle Rock to the seedy of Derry, Maine, King’s Worlds have always been connected by more than simple Easter eggs.
At the center of everything is its Magnum Opus, The dark towerWhich explains how every novel and nightmare is linked to a single temptular multiverse. The next HBO series IT: Welcome to Derry This mythology is not moving away, in fact, is immersing himself headlong.
Director Andy Muschiettiwhich brought Pennywise to the big screen in 2017 and 2019 It Movies, explained to TV Insider how deep this connection will go.
“The purpose of the show, among others, is to open a window on the other side … and to give the public the feeling that everything they know about the book, stories and films is only the tip of the iceberg.
“Everything that is on the other side is connected to the dark tower because it is the same universe, the macro -seversa.”
This is a rather interesting statement for fans who have spent decades to put King’s literary puzzle together. Muschietti clarified that it is not just a wink and nod.
“Of course, being it, we are seeing all this from the point of view of humans, mainly. In this series, there will be more than speculation.”
Set in the 1960s, Welcome to Derry He will explore the history of the city long before the loser club faced himself against Pennywise. The 1986 King novel suggested centuries of rituals and cycles of terror soaked in blood, and this prequel exploits that foundation.
By focusing on the decades of Derry before the events of the cinematographic adaptations, the series has the freedom to connect the left past of the city with other infested corners of King Maine. Places like the Lotto of Jerusalem (The lot of Salem) and Castle Rock (The Dead Zone, Cujo) are practically close and the idea of their supernatural stories that bleed in Derry’s makes the scope of the show even bigger.
But the most exciting promise is its connection to The dark tower. Pennywise is more than a cling clinging in the shadows, it is an interdimensional creature from the “macroverto”, also known as Todash space in The dark tower.
This void exists among countless worlds, full of eldritch horrors. The eternal rival of Pennywise is Maturin, the cosmic turtle that is one of the guardians of the beams that support the same dark tower.
The films only made fun of this mythology, but the series is ready to go further. The speech by Muschietti of “glimpses of the other part” hints at a visual exploration of the MacroVersa, something that the fans have for years for years.
Putting the curse of Derry within the largest tapestry of the shared universe of King, IT: Welcome to Derry It could be the first adaptation to truly embrace the cosmic scale of King’s interconnected stories.
IT: Welcome to Derry Premiere on HBO October 26, 2025.
