Sony Pictures Classics has released a wonderful trailer for The choirA drama set of the First World War starring Ralph Fiennes As a severe but passionate chorus leader who tries to keep a community together through music.

Set in 1916 Yorkshire, the story follows Dr. Henry Guthrie, a man recently returned from Germany, who deals with a local choral society after most of his men were enrolled in the army.

With teenagers who enter as substitutes and conscription that affects them, the choir becomes a rare source of unity and hope. “The best response to the chaos that is losing their life is to make music together.”

Directed by Nicholas Hytner (The guys in history, The lady in the van) and written by the acclaimed playwright Alan Bennett, The choir Heads personal resilience with the national tragedy.

The character of Fiennes, described as “guided” and “intransigent”, has to face his secrets while the city around him changes. The film explores how a small act how to sing can become an anchor of salvation when everything else falls apart.

“The ambitious committee of the choir, determined to press, decides to recruit young males local males to inflate their ranks … despite their suspicions that has something to hide, their best bet seems to be Dr. Henry Guthrie.”

The film seems to offer an edifying portrait of community and artistic resistance during one of the darkest chapters in history. In reality I can’t wait to look at this! It looks great!

The choir He will make his world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival of 2025 in September, followed by a theatrical version of the United Kingdom on November 7th. This Christmas arrives in US cinemas on December 25th.
