James Gunn AND Peter Safran They were at work that modeled the new DC universe, with main characters such as Superman, Supergirl, Green Lanterns Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Guy Gardner, together with Hawkgirl, Clayface, Wonder Woman and Lobo, already on the scoreboard. So, of course, there is Batman.
Fans were not shy in offering suggestions for those who should wear the cloak and hood The brave and the boldAnd a name that continues to arrive is the star of Reacher Alan Ritchson.
So what does Gunn think of the idea? He turned to a recent episode of Josh Horowitz’s happy confused podcast podcast and his response left the door open.
When asked if he started thinking about the launch of Batman, Gunn replied:
“I am a big fan of Alan Ritchson, both as an actor and as a boy. I, wait and see what happens.”
It is enough to make you ask if the conversations have already taken place behind the scenes. Of course, this does not mean that Ritchson is blocked as Batman, but he doesn’t even exclude him.
Gunn has also dealt with the challenge of creating a Batman that stands out from previous iterations, including Matt Reeves Batman with Robert Pattinson:
“Listen, I never think about it, of course there are people out there I think, but let’s see where the script comes into play. It is not the farthest along the problem. I mean, we have things that are much ahead.”
So, Batman is not yet at the top of the production program, but Gunn clarified that the character is a huge priority for him. In fact, he recently said to Rolling Stone:
“Batman is my greatest number in all DC right now, personally. And it’s not – I’m not writing Batman, but I’m working with the Batman writer and I’m trying to do it well, because it’s incredibly important for DC, as well as Wonder Woman. So outside the things I am doing in the projects that are going actively, our two priorities are ending our wonder and our Batman scripts.”
As for Ritchson, he is well aware of the fans’ casting and is here for this. Speaking with Wired, the actor recalled Gunn’s attempt to close the speculations on Twitter:
“What is surprising for me of this voice of Batman’s desire in the Zeitgeist is the fact that James Gunn has personally announced publicly on his Twitter …” Lol. He is not playing Batman … and this thing will not die. I am asked every day if I’m playing Batman. Play Batman?
For now, the DCU Batman remains a mystery, but with Gunn who openly admits that the character is an absolute priority, expect an official announcement before rather than after.
So what do you think? Should Alan Ritchson take the dark knight’s cloak or do you have someone else in mind for the protector of Gotham?
