Because the Fantastic Four needed an accurate comedian galat: “These drawings are the test of time”

The Marvel cinematographic universe is finally giving fans the Galactus in which they were waiting The Fantastic Four: First StepsAnd it seems that it was torn directly by the comics.

This time, Worlds devourer is not a strange spatial cloud or a vague cosmic anomaly. It is an imposing figure in full armor, just like Jack Kirby he imagined it during the day, and will be interpreted by Ralph Inesion.

For fans of longtime Marvel, it looks like a redemption after the notorious portrait Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. But second Kevin FeigeThis is not the case that Marvel Studios sees him.

“I never looked at it as a redemption, but I looked at it as we had reached a certain point, and I hope the audience reached a point, and the people who made decisions in the studies came to the point where the fear of something foolish is not a sufficient reason not to try.

“Also for us, going back, I think most of the things are not shocked in the comics. I think they are cool and I think it’s fantastic to give life.

“Loki’s horns come to mind when we were doing the first Thor, and this was many years ago, and had been a handful of years by the Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer who had Galactus.

“And I thought, we don’t want to hide it. He has gigantic, he almost doesn’t make sense, huge horns, and we have to embrace him.”

Feige continued to underline that Marvel’s trust in embracing these fantastic design is not new, it started with characters like Loki.

At the time, the idea of putting an actor in huge and curved horns seemed risky. Now? It is iconic. He said:

“In Ralph, we have the same thing. So he is embracing him and knowing that those design are fantastic. These drawings resist the test of time still and again and for a reason.”

For his part, Ineson did not try to arise from Silver Surfer inspiration. Instead, it went directly to the source.

The actor approached Galactus not as a “bad”, but as something elementary, an unstoppable force of nature with a mentality well beyond human understanding.

That cosmic staircase is crucial for the character, who in comics is a being of pure energy with the power that challenges the imagination.

This explains why the previous adaptations have moved away from the traditional look, trying to make Galactus “less foolish” seem, completely removing its humanoid form.

But as the story has shown, when studies are corrected so that comics drawings feel “serious”, fans are usually not electrified. Feige and the MCU seem determined not to make this error again.

Galactus is not just a big bad for the show, it is a fundamental part of Mythos Marvel and the fact that Marvel Studios is embracing its original design talks about volumes on where superhero films are directed.

The fear of leaning against the most extravagant aspects of the comic book tradition is disappeared, replaced by the trust that these drawings, if done well, are more impressive than ridiculous.

As Feige said:

“These projects resist the test of time again and again and again for one reason.”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps I will present the audience to the first Marvel family in the MCU and, from the sound of it, we are getting a faithful galactus that lives until decades of fans’ expectations.

The film will arrive in the cinemas on Friday 25 July and the Worlds devourer is arriving in all his cosmic glory.
