Adam Sandler says Happy Gilmore 2 faced a “painful change” after Carl Weathers’ death

“We had a painful change. Carl Weathers had a huge part. I had talked to Carl, and we were excited, and then Carl died. We had to rewrite many things, and also what the story was. We did many good references to how great it was in the film. It was the greatest change.”

According to Sandler, the original script strongly characterized Chubbs, making fans of the sequel will see a completely different film from the one that was scheduled for the first time. While Chubbs will not physically appear, his inheritance will play an important role in history.

Sandler even shared an initial concept for the film that has maintained the weather involved in a unique way:

“In the first version that came to mind, he had a son. He was returning a lot to me in my dreams and had a son who was angry with Felice that he had caused Dad’s death.”

It is not clear if this idea was still on the table when Weathers died or if it had already been demolished, but shows how much the actor meant for the sequel. With the disappeared Weathers, the team had to rethink the entire narrative, honoring Chubbs while he was going on the story.

The final version still nods to the character. THE Happy Gilmore 2 The trailer reveals Lavell Crawford Like Chubbs’ son complete with a prosthetic hand like that of his father. There is also a look at the McGavin shooter in what seems to be a cemetery, suggesting a moment that recognizes Chubbs’s passage.

Happy Gilmore 2 It may not be the film Adam Sandler Originally imagined, but it is clear that Chubbs Peterson remains at the center of history. Fans can see how everything meets when the sequel strikes Netflix on July 25th.
