AMC theaters double on midweek agreements. The largest largest film chain in the world is expanding its famous discounts program by offering 50% discount on film tickets on both Tuesday and Wednesdays, but there is a problem … you must be an AMC Stubs member.
This new offer replaces the old agreement from $ 5 Tuesday and line the prices with the 50% 50% discount recently. It is part of the wider strategy of the chain to bring more people to cinemas during the typically slower days.
According to AMC, the agreement applies to all film formats, even if Premium screenings such as IMAX and 3D still bring their usual tools and some exclusions apply, especially during the weeks of the holidays or for selected films.
AMC is also launching a bonus and offers discounts on its small combination of popcorn and drinks in both days, hoping to sweeten the deal for frugal filmmakers.
So why the push for traffic on weekdays? The box office is still hurting. Despite some successes here and there, the sales of tickets are still down by 25% compared to 2019, the last whole year before the pandemic launched the industry in the head. People are more demanding and thrifty for what they leave the house for (and open their wallets).
Adam Aron, CEO of AMC, said: “Following the response of the overwhelming guests to our 50% discount announcement on Wednesday ticket prices, two things have become clear. In the first place, our discount program Tuesday will benefit from a clear and concise messaging that resonates with the spectators looking for value.
He added: “And secondly – those spectators are also looking for value in concessions. While spectators are not required to buy food or drinks to take advantage of discounts on ticket prices, there is the opportunity to add incoming snack income to AMC on Tuesday and Wednesday.”
AMC has experienced all sorts of things to prevent the business from selling to the surface to sell popcorn in shopping centers when launching a credit card with a brand and even investing in a mining company. More recently, the company has increased the number of pre-show ads to help income without touching ticket prices.
With over 36 million people registered in the Stubs program of AMC, which is free of charge at the basic level, this new offer could simply give the hesitation a reason to return to the theater … at least one Tuesday or Wednesday.
