James Gunn officially planted his flag in the DC universe SupermanAnd he is not looking back. During a recent episode of armchairs expert with Dax Shepard, Gunn was asked if he felt guilty to leave Marvel for DC. His response was blunt and honest:
“No, I just shaken my head. I didn’t feel like that because I was fired. I don’t feel guilty at all. I want to say, I had to take a job! I took a job [with] People I liked, that’s it too. “
Gunn, of course, directed all three Guardians of the galaxy movies and even shot the Thor: The Dark World Mid-Credits scene. But in 2018, things took a turning point. Disney cut the ties with him on the filled tweets, leaving Gunn thinking that his career could be done.
“I thought my career was over.”
It was then that Warner Bros. entered the photo. Initially they contacted him SupermanBut Gunn launched Suicide Instead. And in a turning point of timing directly from a comic plot, on the same day on which Warner called, Disney stretched, apparently ready to bring it back to the feile.
So Gunn found himself sitting Kevin Feigehome, he is asked if he would have directed Superman. In the end, he returned to Marvel one last time to finish Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3before committing completely to the DC, this time as CO-HEAD of DC Studios together with Peter Safran.
Despite the rocky exit, Gunn clarified that Marvel people have never been the problem:
“Listen, there are people of whom I’m not so happy over there [at Disney]But this was certainly not the Marvel guys, you know? They were completely supported.
“[Marvel Studios Co-President] Louis d’Esposito has always called me. Lou and Kevin were fantastic. So certainly they were not them. “
Now, Gunn is fully focused on the remodeling of the DC cinematographic universe. Chapter one: gods and monsters started with Commandos creature And now Superman. On the bridge are Supergirl, Pacifier Season 2, LanternAnd more, since DC aims to launch two films and more shows-long and animated-tone shows.
For Gunn, the past is behind him. He did not burn the bridges, he just found a new one to build.
