For fans who grew up on the animated series Giorry Giorioly GIE Joe of the 80s, this is the type of return we didn’t know we need … so far. Cold Slutter, the fictitious hard rock band faced by the Cobra motorcyclist, Dreadnoks, is getting his comic.
GI JOE: Cold Slutter #1 falls on October 1 from Skybound and Image Comics as part of the expanding Energon universe, the ambitious crossover playground that combines GI Joe and transformers under a single chaotic roof.
Written by TIM SEELEY (Canaglia, local man) and designed by Juann Cabal (Friendly Spider-Man district), the single blow dives headlong into the rise, and the inevitable implosion, of the most dangerous rock band that he has ever destroyed for Cobra.
“The most captivating song ever to embellish a line of military theme toys has lived in my head without rent for forty years,” said Seley. “So I’m happy to drag him and write the true story of the scrappy band of unbelievers who recorded it.”
The band was originally introduced into the “Cold Slutter” episode, in which Cobra prepared a plan to wash the brain of young people using subliminal messages incorporated into a rocky hymn. Of course, the Dreadnoks were perfectly suitable for the band.
The artist Juann Cabal is just as heated to bring this chaotic ensemble to the page: “My parents met at a cold concert in the 80s, so get this blow was very special for me”.
Ben AbernathyExecutive Editor of Skybound, he added: “To say that this confusion problem was a love work is an understatement. Putting this heterogeneous crew of creators together for this incisive and sincere gaze on the rise and fall of the legendary cold sled was a heavy metal dream that became reality!”
This is the deep and unexpected deep type of cut that makes GIE Joe’s current comic books so fun. They are not just restarting family things, they are digging in the strangest corners of the franchise and treating them with reverence and ridiculous a touch.
GI JOE: Cold Slutter #1 hits the comic shops on Wednesday 1 October. Prepare to throw the horns and give your free will to Cobra’s favorite rock band.
