James Gunn He is not moving away the bold ideas in his vision of Superman. During a recent conversation on the podcast of armchair experts, the DC Studios Co-CEs unplaced the moral column of the man of steel, and this includes a hypothetical scenario in which Superman would have tried to save Hitler.
Let’s backup. Gunn was talking to the hosts Dax Shepard AND Monica Padman On the rigid code without Superman’s Kill and on how this model the release movie. Gunn clarified: “He is an idealist … Don’t kill never cares what”.
It was then that Shepard remained inside, “maybe don’t save Hitler?” Gunn replied: “Hitler would probably have saved.” Shepard followed: “He should have. This is his code.”
It is a deeper reflection on what separates Superman from other superheroes. Gunn stressed that this Superman does not believe in collecting who can live or die, no matter how evil someone is.
“[Superman] He believes … very distinctly that you cannot let people die if you have the opportunity to stop it from … it doesn’t matter from what. “
To lead the point at home, Gunn referred to the famous cart problem, to the ethical experiment of thought in which a person must choose between saving five people or one.
In Gunn’s words, “it with … if there is a train arriving at five people … [out a way to save all of them]. “
This is the version of Superman Gunn wants to highlight in his film … an alien of principle and optimistic who tries to do the right thing in a disordered world.
“Superman is Superman. He is a good -natured boy who is an alien, and has the same background as all the others.” But this time, he is relying in a chapter that we have never seen before. “I wanted to focus on a moment of his life on which we were not really concentrated … his first career like Superman and as Clark Kent.”
Gunn did not further process Hitler’s example, it was more a trial case to explore the limits of the Superman code. However, it is a significant look at how the director is thinking about what this character makes.
Love or hate the comparison, it is clear that Gunn is not watering the philosophical mail to give life to Superman.
