It turns out James Gunn’S Superman It could be impregnated in a direction that fans did not expect, directly in the vibrant, emotional heart, which blends the genre of Bollywood cinema.
During a recent chat with HT City, Gunn and Lois Lane herself, Rachel BrosnahanOpen on how Indian cinematographic culture has contributed to modeling the tone and spirit of Superman. Brosnahan said:
“Bollywood movie I feel as if we had inspired the inspiration from color and movement.”
Now that he said, somehow I can see what he is talking about. You can see in particular the most vibrant and expressive palette of the color of what we have seen in previous dc iterations.
Gunn went a little deeper, explaining how the eastern cinema is the most important things for him when he made his films.
“You know, Bollywood films and oriental cinema in general are the most important thing for me when I am telling stories. The thing that those films give me is that they are not afraid of having a movie that has a heart, that has a drama, but it is also fun, has music, all those things are beautiful. And this is what is life, right?”
If you have followed Gunn’s work, you already know that she is not afraid to throw the tone into a blender. But it is interesting to hear him accredit Bollywood specifically as a guide influence on how he wants Superman feel. He added:
“Life is all these things. Life is not a genre, and that’s where I really take inspiration for Superman, it comes from Bollywood films.”
If the idea that Superman is inspired by Bollywood has caught you by surprise, you are not alone. But considering how emotionally rich and shamelessly sincerely wealthy Bollywood can be, I can understand why Gunn appreciates it.
