Marvel Studios is launching The Fantastic Four: First Steps With a new lot of posters of international characters. With the film that falls day and year in China and the United States on July 25, the campaign is increasing.
The posters show Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), his Storm (invisible woman), Johnny Storm (human torch), Ben Grimm (the thing) and yes: Edie, the adorable robot that could very well become the next Disney merch Juggernaut.
Director Matt Shakman aims to something more personal and unified with this film, focusing on the family in the center of the franchise.
“The casting was the number one challenge for the film. It was not just a search for who was the best Ben and who was the best Johnny, but also who was the best family? Who was the best married couple? Who were the best brothers and honorary uncle? So it was very rewarding to see the incredible chemistry that the four had from the beginning.”
The chemical will be tested by the cosmic threat of Galactus and Silver Surfer, key characters at the center of this new interpretation. But in particular absent? Doctor Doom.
“Doom is a great character, but takes a lot of air,” Shakman explained. “Other cinematographic adaptations have made both a story of origin and a fate. We are not doing any of the two and this allows us to look at them from a new perspective.”
Accepted in the vibrant background of a retro world inspired by the 1960s, The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces the first Marvel-Reed Richards family/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing-like face their most brazen challenge.
Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend the earth from a ravenous god called Galactus (Ralph Inesion) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus plans to devour the entire planet and everyone wasn’t bad enough, suddenly becomes very personal.
The film is rooted in old style optimism that inspired the comic that started the modern Marvel universe in 1961. The director previously said:
“More than only visual aesthetics, the 60s concern me optimism. It is a question of looking at the stars and dreaming of traveling in space. It is how with the right heart and the right mind, you can do anything – which is what the Fantastic Four is.”
Directed by Wandavision‘S Matt ShakmanThe film boasts a high profile cast led by Pedro Pascal (Cane), Vanessa Kirby (Sue), Joseph Quinn (Johnny), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben), with a support training that includes John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter HauserAND Sarah Niles In roles still to be reviewed.
Take a look at the posters below and let us know who you are more enthusiastic about seeing in action when the fantastic four: the first steps arrive in the cinemas on July 25, 2025.
