Marvel Studios have just shared a nice piece of concept art that gives us our clearer appearance to the version of the MCU on the iconic Baxter building.
The image emanates an elegant and futuristic atmosphere, anchoring the building not only as a headquarters of superheroes, but as a lighthouse of innovation. The caption reads:
“The Baxter Building, home of the Future Foundation and The Fantastic Four. The initial proposal for the headquarters included this Baxter Building Plaza rendering, providing for a place where charity and world leaders could meet to raise humanity.”
The Baxter building originally debuted in Fantastic Four #1 in March 1962, located on the corner of 42nd Street and Madison Avenue in New York City. It was 35 floors and the fantastic four occupied the first five.
That modest scale seemed right for the first days of Marvel Comics, but things changed in 1985 when John Byrne leveled the place in Fantastic Four #278. As Byrne said: “FF’s HQ building had long been set up as 35 floors in height. Impressive enough in 1962, but not so much in 1980, when I arrived in the book. It did not seem that I could start referring to the building as higher than all those previous stories, so I decided to do something more dramatic.
It seems that the outgoing movie is borrowing a page from the Byrne playbook.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Vanessa KirbyAND Pedro PascalAnd he hits cinemas on July 25, 2025.
