This July 4th, we greet GI Joe for saving the Statue of Freedom in The Badass GI Joe: The Movie Intro

Every year, on the day of independence, we turn on the grid, look at the fireworks and perhaps revisit some partriotic films full of action.

But if you really want to hear that red, white and blue race, he returns to 1987, when GI Joe: the film It started with such an exaggerated patriotic sequence as to make the avengers seem like pacifists.

Cobra tried to blow the statue of freedom in the air and Joes close them hard.

The opening of the film launches you directly into the chaos. Cobra attacks a ceremony on the island of Ellis, just to find the event protected by GI Joe.

While the Joes defend the statue of freedom, the commander of Cobra plant a bomb behind the statue. Joe Air Power removes Cobra’s vehicles while Duke, via Jet Pack, brings the bomb of the commander to the Cobra airship, which is gloriously destroyed when the bomb explodes.

Joas pose victorious on the crown of Lady Liberty. It is so seriously epic and ridiculous that you cannot help but smile. The final sequence in which Duke is flying on the American flag to the top of the statue of freedom will always bring me a tear in my eyes.

That introduction is a pure injection of animated heroism and musical adrenaline that still slaps decades later.

So, this July 4th, perhaps take a moment to remember that when Cobra tried to wipe out one of the greatest American symbols … GI Joe was there. Yo Joe!

Enjoy the video below and be notified, the music could simply stay in the head for the rest of the day. Stay up there out there and happy day of independence!
