While there are many advances around James GunnThe restart of the DC universe, do not expect an MCU style project at 10 years strictly mapped. Second Superman star David CorenswetIt could really be a good thing.
Speaking with Screenrant, The New Man of Steel explained why Gunn and DC Studios Co-Head Peter Safran They are adopting a freer approach for the first film. Corenswet said:
“I intend, [I know] essentially nothing. Essentially only that it means when he says that no plan is better than the quality of the scripts and the directors that he and Peter must make.
“I know very little about the fandom of comics and the idea of obtaining an announcement of the temporal sequence. I know very little. But I know it is one thing, and I know that, for better or for worse, they will go down to compromise a time sequence rather than compromising a film.”
Some fans could see it as a refreshing perspective, especially in an era in which fans are trained waiting for Tentacular times, multi -year lists and intertwined stories.
Corenswet added:
“If people knew what happens to bring together a movie and make a movie, they understood that if you attack you too far, you will end up compromising the things that are actually important …
“So this is the guidance light for him and Peter who go on. There are some things coming, but this is the main principle and this is a good person to work for.”
However, the lack of a concrete DCU launch has left other fans perplexed. Projects like Clay, Wonder WomanAnd others are under development, but very little from the original chapter 1: the gods and the Slate monsters have materialized and no titles are officially dated for 2027. But Gunn has clarified that it is giving priority to the history of the program.
In a separate interview with Collider, Gunn shared him Hail Mary project screenwriter Drew Goddard He played a key role in modeling Superman’s tone, in particular guiding the director from a darker ending. Shared gunn:
“Drew Goddard was really useful. I think there were a couple of small things in the film, three or four things that we really discussed in the film, and all had to do with things that were a little darker or a little lighter.
“In discussing one of them, Drew Goddard was like” Do you know what? It’s not that movie. It is not that film with this small dark part. “
Gunn agreed, saying that the note remained with him through the modification process:
“And I thought:” He’s right. It’s not that movie. It’s not that movie. “And so that line he said blocked with me for the rest of the assembly.”
Gunn also said he showed the film to a series of creative voices, including Peter Safran, Chantal Nong, Jason Reitman, Damon LindelofAnd others. “They were so useful,” he added.
It is clear that Superman is a collaborative effort, less a corporate product and more a film modeled by trusted narrators, which is beautiful. I hope it works!
Superman Fly in cinemas on 11 July 2025 and while the rest of the DCU may not yet be sculpted in stone, it seems that Gunn’s priority is simple: make films first, worry about the roadmap later.
