What the Superman: Welcome to Metropolis Reverys on James Gunn’s Movie Superman

James Gunn’S Superman It is just around the corner, but the DC fans are hungry for the first details are already digging in the official novel officially authorized Superman: Welcome to Metropolis.

Written by David Lewman And released on June 3 via Penguin Random House, the 144-page book is needed a version of origin-like of the first days of Clark Kent in Metropolis complete with a hunt for work, fights with superulons and first contact with future allies.

The novel is described as “inspired by the film”, which gives Gunn a lot of space to maintain or discard, everything that wants from it. But for fans who want an advantage over this new version of Superman, it is a mockery for what is coming.

The story opens with Clark trying to get a job at the Daily Planet. He gets it by writing an exclusive interview with Superman. That’s right, the first assignment of the Rookie reporter is basically a piece of PR on himself, written after stopping lex Luthor to sabotage a toy factory.

Why a toy factory? Lothor states that he smuggled in smuggling in plush animals. His henchman Otis questioned logic, but Luthor turns it off quickly. However, the accident puts Superman on his radar.

After Clark’s “debut”, Luthor sends a half -human weapon, half a car, metal, to attack the town hall. Superman intervenes and for the first time we meet the so -called band of justice, which includes Mr. Terrific, Guy Gardner (Green Lantern) and Hawkgirl.

It is worth noting that Guy is the one who insists on the name “Justice Gang”, even if Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl clearly don’t love him.

Superman manages to overwhelm metal and throw it into the port, but Luthor recovers the body and updates it using a mysterious green element. Even if it has never been called, we can assume that it is Kryptonite.

In the second round, metal defeats almost Superman, who is saved to the last second from the band of justice. Struck by their teamwork, Mister Terrific invites Superman to join them. It does not give an answer, but the door is clearly open.

In the meantime, Lois Lane is trying to get an interview with Lex, and it is less than electrified for the new rental of the daily planet. Jimmy Olsen also makes his appearance. In the end, Clark helps Lois to get an exclusive with Superman, continuing his tendency to collect the editorial staff using internal information.

The book ends with lex that collect pieces of the destroyed metal and realizing that the strange green element could be the key to bringing Superman falling.

That thread of the story, together with the mention of the bad armored The Hammer of Boravia (an original creation of James Gunn’s film), suggests that while metal may not appear in the film, Elements of the book could bleed in future films.

The time sequence is blurred. It is not clarified how long before the film the book is set or if it adapts to the continuity of DCUs that is being made. But the welcome to Metropolis certainly looks like a soft launch for the tone and the world of Gunn’s Superman.

Whether this story “officially matters” or not, it is a solid heating for what is coming in July.
