Stephen King shares his thoughts on Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck – “I love that movie”

With a wave of imminent Stephen King The adaptations have headed, The long walk, The man runningAnd more, it is easy to focus on the family member, terrifying, the classic. But just around the corner there is a more silent version that has already made a powerful impression on the master of horror itself.

Chuck’s lifeBased on King’s 2020 news and hitting cinemas next week, it is not the typical king’s tariff. This is not horror. These are not infested hotels or killer straw. It concerns life … fleeting, beautiful and strange.

Directed and adapted by Mike Flanaganwho previously brought us Sleep doctor, Game’s gameAND The pursuit of Hill HouseThis film marks a passage to something more tender, more reflective and, if you ask King, something truly special.

King recently opened the Tom HiddlestonFilm -D, and that’s what he said:

“It’s a wonderful film. I don’t know if he will do business or not. I don’t know if people are in the mood for that kind of warm things.

“That’s not what I would call srroppy and sentimental because it has the recognition that life can be very, very difficult. But Hiddleston has done an excellent job like Chuck. I love that film.”

A “wonderful film”. A “warm thing.” By the guy who gave us Pet semother AND SplendorAnd this is an emotional approval.

The structure of the history of Chuck’s life is not conventional. On the contrary, it is told starting from Chuck’s death from a brain tumor to 39, then moving backwards through three connected cartoons that paint a portrait of a life lived, lost and remembered.

The result is something intimate and surreal, an “apocalyptic version of It’s a Wonderful Life”, as has been described.

As for Flanagan, King has nothing but respect for the boy. In recent years, Flanagan has sculpted a niche to adapt the king in ways that seem deeply personal and cinematographic. With Chuck’s lifeIt is exchanged with horror by grace and, according to King, it is great!

The cast also includes Mark Hamill, David Dastmalchian, Chiwetel EjioFor (Doctor Strange), AND Jacob Tremblay (Sleep doctor), as well as Mia Sara, Trinity Bliss, Harvey Guillen, Rahul KohliAND Heather Langenkamp.

Chiwetel EjioFor (12 years a slave), a school teacher who tries to apply logic to the planet’s problems; Karen Gillan (Guardians of the galaxy) is his ex, a hospital worker determined to save all those he can; Matthew Lillard (Cry) is a construction neighbor who finds Zen in the chaos; AND Carl Lightly (Alias), plays a funeral director who dedicated his life to loosening them through death.

As King said, the film is “a happiness machine”. What is honestly? We could probably use one right now.
