After more than six decades of epic martial arts that fight, fall in violation of the bones and only the type of creative chaos Jackie Chan You can deliver, you would think that it could finally retire by doing its stunts. But no, Jackie is not slowing down. In fact, he says he is not withdrawing. Never.
Chan said Haute Living in a recent interview:
“Of course, I always do my stunts. It’s what they are, he is not changing until the day I withdraw, which is never! And to be honest, when you did it for 64 years in a row, there is no more physical preparation. Everything is in your heart and in your soul; it is muscle memory.”
At 70, with over 150 screen credits under the belt and a legacy that has defined the kind of action, Chan is still everything inside. He is ready to resume his role as Mr. Han Karate Kid: LegendsAnd yes, he is doing his stunts.
Chan’s commitment to the work of acrobatics of the real world has not changed, even if Hollywood supports more deeply in the digital effects and in safety configurations. But while it remains a tough traditionalist, it is not blind for the way the industry has moved or risks that derive from its profession.
“At old days, the only one [choice we had] He had to be there and jump; That’s all. Today, with computers, actors can do anything, but there is always a sense of reality that you think is missing. “
That “sense of reality” is what Chan has always chased, but it is also painfully aware of what has cost him. (If you have seen the Blooper coils at the end of his films, you know: this man paid in full.) This is why, despite his refusal to quit, he is ready to warn others from following his footsteps.
“It is a double -edged sword. On the one hand, the actors become increasingly capable of making acrobatics impossible with the help of technology, and yet, on the other hand, the concept of danger and limit is blurred and the public is insensitive [to it].
“But I’m not encouraging anyone to risk my life to do acrobatics as I did; it’s really too dangerous.”
So, while Jackie Chan has not finished crashing through the windows or oscillating from the scaffolding, he is also not asking anyone else to risk the neck to keep up. He is just doing what he has always done … being Jackie Chan and, apparently, that job does not have a retirement plan.
