Netflix is imminent Little House on the Prairie The restart has officially completed the Core Ingalls family with the casting of Charles, Caroline and Mary.
Assuming the iconic role of Charles Ingalls is Elvis AND Holidation star Luke Bracey. Entering the role of the Matriarch of the Caroline family is Palm Royale‘S Crosby Fitzgerald. And playing Mary, the eldest daughter and the contrast with her wild sister Laura, is Skywalker Hughes from Joe Pickt.
They unite Alice Halseypreviously announced as Laura Ingalls and narrator of the new series.
The restart comes from showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine (The boys, the Vampire Diaries) and CBS Studios, is described as “family drama of hope, part of a history of epic survival and a history of origin in part of the American West”.
Instead of trying to replicate the long 1974 series led by Michael Landon, this version begins when the Ingalls family is still relatively young with only two daughters, Mary and Laura, and is more inclined in the surviving and emotional realism of the life of the prairie.
Charles of Bracey is framed as robust and romantic, but stratified. “Charles Ingalls of Bracey won his wife’s heart bringing her three miles through the snow to a winter dance. He is a man who adapted perfectly to the 21st century.
“Reductionally beautiful, fascinating, extroverted. A farmer and a trapper. A carpenter and an artist. A poet, a musician, a skilled narrator. The original dad is an optimistic, always half full of glass. But he is also a vagabond. A researcher. A man forever in search of more green pastures.”
Meanwhile, Fitzgerald’s Caroline is the basic type that holds a family together through brutal winters and great dreams. “The Caroline Ingalls of Fitzgerald did not marry her husband for convenience – they fell really deeply in love.
“It was a great love story, and it is still. He has a playful side, a romantic side, but in the end, it is she who holds this family on the track. As mothers do. He is quiet, patient and practical, but with a steel nucleus.
“He gave up his teaching career to have a family, but that desire for independence has never gone away. His marriage is one of the same – something rare in the 19th century. And although his trust in his husband is tested, the strength of their love resistance.”
As for Mary, Hughes will interpret it as Laura’s emotional counterweight, a dynamic that promises tension and heart. “Mary Ingalls by Hughes is Laura’s older sister and the polar opposite. A follower of a rule. Silent and scholar.
“Angola always to be the good daughter, the obedient one, that gentleman, the most beautiful one. Other parents love Mary. Unlike his sister, he is uncomfortable in the natural world: the sun is too hot, the snow is too cold.
“She loves the beautiful ribbons and light poems and long sewing afternoons. In other words, Laura and Mary are oil and water. The best friends and fatal enemies love each other deeply and hate themselves intensely. But in the end they always have mutual shoulders – there is no choice that protect each other in this new landscape.”
Executive manufacturers of the show include Sonnenshine, Joy Gorman Wettels (13 reasons why), Trip friendly for friendly family productions, Dana Fox (Cruel), AND Susanna Fogel (Booksmart).
Sarah Adina Smith (Hanna) is directing the pilot. The show is produced by CBS Studios in collaboration with Anonymous Content Studio.
Filming start this June in Winnipeg, Canada and if the show is up to the promise of his creative and cast team, Netflix could have a new frontier classic in hand.
