Ryan Coogler’S Sinners It’s not your middle vampire movie. Yes, it is full of blood, blood and horror. But it is also a film full of heart and soul. It’s a fantastic movie, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you should take a look!
Turns out, the film also has a surprising inspiration for its main villain, with the film Puss in boots: the last desire.
During an episode of the Podcast Get Rec’d, Coogler revealed that one of his greatest creative influences behind the chilling antagonist of the film, Remmick, who was played by Jack O’Connell. It was not a classic Dracula or Nosferatu. It was the mortality wolf that detaches and turns death from Puss in boots: the last desire.
Coogler explained: “Think about the bad guy. Think about his distinctive characteristics. Think about his behavior.”
Now that he underlined it, you can definitely see the flu. The quiet threat, the sense of terror, is exactly what Coogler wanted to channel in Remmick.
Like the wolf, the finds, hides in the shade and comes complete with bright eyes and a disturbing calm that disturbs everyone in the room. Of course he also knows how to sing and dance the Irish mask!
The film follows the Smoke and Stack brothers, played by Michael B. Jordanwho return to their hometown just to find an evil presence has taken control of their beloved house. At the center of everything is Reminick, a vampire obsessed with spreading his infection and consolidating power.
I love the fact that Coogler took an apparently unexpected inspiration from a sequel to animated fairy tales and used it to build one of the new terrifying bad guys for his vampire film.
