I had an absolute explosion watching the recently published film Death of a unicorn. It is one of those horror films that knows exactly what it wants to be … absurd, wild and completely unbridled in the best possible way.
However, it is not just chaos for the good of chaos. Under blood and bizarre rhythms of the plot, there is a really fun story and some acute characters that make everything work.
The premise alone made me smile from one ear to the other, Paul Rudd AND Jenna Ortega He plays a father-daughter duo that hit and killed a unicorn with their car on the road for a retreat hosted by Rudd’s shady billionaire boss, who is dying of cancer.
They push the unicorn in the back of their care and after a series of events, the spiral things quickly when his head discovers that the unicorn has healing powers and is trying to profit from the remains of the creature.
That decision, of course, triggers hell in the form of exclusive and violent unicorns for revenge. If this does not attract your attention, I don’t know what it will do.
What I loved the most is how much the film leans on its ridiculousness. He did not hold back. There is this B-Movie monster atmosphere that crosses everything, silly, yes, but also elegant and confident.
Unicorns are complete nightmares. The creatures design are nodosis in all the right ways. These things are dignified and otherworldly beasts, but they are also incorporated by hints to the shiny fairytale creatures with which we are all familiar.
You can say that the creative team had fun distorting the traditional unicorn in something grotesque and beautiful.
The tone runs through a fun line between horror and comedy. Paul Rudd It brings its distinctive charm but it is also light. Jenna Ortega Keep the step perfectly with a mix of grain for the heart and adolescence. Their dynamics gives history a center to cling to.
This film is not shy in having fun. He knows he’s a ride and invites you to resist and have fun. Death of a unicorn goes there. It is strange, bloody and a little beautiful in its unbalanced way.
