Just three weeks after its release, Captain America: Brave New World is generating a lot of buzz and the box office tracking numbers suggest a strong debut.
According to Deadline, the film is expected to gross $95 million during its four-day opening weekend on Presidents’ Day and Valentine’s Day.
This puts the latest installment in the Captain America series on par with the 2014 blockbuster The Winter Soldierwhich opened to $95 million.
For comparison, the first film, The First Avenger (2011), which launched with $65 million domestically, while 2016’s Civil war came in with a huge $179 million opening weekend.
While Brave New World may not reach the heights of Civil warlooks to be a solid performer in the lineup of Phase 5 of the MCU.
If the projections hold up, Brave New World will solidify Marvel Studios’ dominance over Presidents Day weekend. As the report points out, the top three four-day openings this holiday belong to Marvel Black Panther ($242.1 million in 2018), Dead Pool ($152.1 million in 2016) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($120.3 million in 2023). While Brave New World may not reach the stratospheric heights of Black Pantherits numbers would still place it firmly in blockbuster territory.
In the movie, Anthony MackieSam Wilson faces his toughest challenge yet. After meeting with US President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford In his MCU debut, Sam becomes entangled in an international crisis.
Tasked with uncovering the mastermind behind a global conspiracy, Sam must act before the entire world descends into chaos.
The cast of the film also includes Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv TylerAND Tim Blake Nelson.
The film was directed by Giulio Onah and produced by Kevin Feigethe film will be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.
