This was reported a few weeks ago Nosferatu director Roberto Eggers would develop a sequel to Jim Henson’s 1986 cult fantasy film Labyrinth. Well, today it was confirmed that the director has signed on to write and direct the sequel.

Eggers is writing the screenplay with his writing partner SjonWhile Chris Colombo AND Eleonora Colombo they are producing together Lisa Henson. Brian Henson he is executive producer.

Eggers is a great choice for this fantasy franchise and I’m incredibly excited to see what he does with the sequel. The original Labyrinth is known for his imaginative storytelling and David Bowie’s iconic performance as the Goblin King, Jareth.

The original film follows sixteen-year-old Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) as he navigates a magical, ever-changing labyrinth to save his little brother from Jareth’s clutches.

This was one of my favorite films as a child and I especially love the dark fantasy element of the story, and I hope Eggers leans into this in the sequel.

Eggers is known for his gothic and atmospheric films such as The witch, The LighthouseAND The Normanand his talent for creating visually stunning and deeply immersive worlds will bring a fresh and exciting edge to the material.

What do you think about Eggers directing the Labyrinth sequel?
