Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley reportedly being considered for ALIEN: ROMULUS sequel

THE Alien the franchise has been reinvigorated with Alien: Romulusand if the recent rumors are true, we could be in for a wild sequel.

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Ellen Ripley, the iconic character of the franchise played by Sigourney Weaverhas been considered for a return in the sequel and they will use digital aging technology to bring Ripley back to life as we knew her decades ago.

Richtman said: “For the next one Alien movie, they are thinking of bringing Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) back to life using anti-aging technology. While it sounds interesting, it’s important to remember that this information is just rumor.

As for how exactly this might work, we can only speculate. Ripley’s possible return raises important questions about chronology and story. From Alien: Romulus is set between Alien AND AliensRipley is canonically in stasis, adrift in space during this time.

Logistically, there doesn’t seem to be room for her to make an appearance, unless she’s the director Fede Alvarez and his team come up with a workaround that changes the rules of the established timeline.

Álvarez has made it clear that he will not rush into producing the film. He explained: “It might take some time,” adding that he won’t move forward until he has “a story that deserves everyone’s time and is worthy of this title.”

Adding Ripley to Romulus The sequel may also clash with Álvarez’s previously shared goal of exploring “uncharted waters.” Bringing back a character so deeply tied to the franchise’s past might seem like a step in the opposite direction.

This isn’t the first time Ripley’s return has been rumored. Director Neill Blomkamp once launched a direct sequel to Aliens that would have been ignored Alien 3 AND Alien: Resurrectionreuniting Ripley with Newt and Hicks. That project never materialized, and Weaver remained wary of returning to the franchise.

In previous interviews, she has said that it is “not impossible” that she could reprise the role, but she has yet to see a script that convinces her. He said, “I have yet to read a script that said, ‘You have to do this.'”

If this rumor is true, Ripley’s return is sure to spark excitement and debate among fans. It will be interesting to see if this idea actually makes it into the project.

As much as I love Ripley in this franchise, I would be fine if they moved on without her. The Alien franchise is set in a huge universe and there are so many more stories to tell. But if they find an interesting way to include it… I’m ready.

What do you think? An aged Ripley would fit the Romulus followed, or is it time to let the legend rest?
