Photographer Drew Simms braved extreme winter conditions in Yellowstone National Park to document its wildlife that withstands freezing temperatures as low as -37°F (-38.3°C).
Over the course of a week-long expedition, he captured extraordinary footage of frozen bison trudging through deep snow, along with scenes of coyotes, mountain goats, bighorn sheep and bobcats seeking sustenance in an unforgiving environment.
Simms’ work offers a rare glimpse into what these animals face during the winter. Reflecting on the experience, Simms shared:
“I was fortunate enough to spend just over a week in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming this past winter. The weather was brutal with temperatures reaching almost -40°F! I spent time photographing and filming some of my all-time favorite nature experiences.
“Including frozen bison, numerous coyotes, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and many of the geysers around the park. Without a doubt one of the most memorable winter camping trips of my life.”
Simms used the Sony A7SIII to shoot this stunning footage.
