STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW saw lower viewership numbers than THE ACOLYTE in its first week

Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew premiered on Disney+ with two episodes, but viewership is lower than expected.

According to Nielsen streaming data, the show had the lowest first-week viewership of all Star Wars TV series on the platform, with less than 382 million minutes watched.

For comparison, The Acolyte managed 488 million minutes with its two-episode debut, and The Mandalorian season 3 reached a whopping 823 million minutes in its first week.

The Skeleton Crew send-Return of the Jedi The setting and focus on a group of kids sailing the galaxy after getting lost with pirates received positive reviews from fans and critics. However, that reception hasn’t translated into strong streaming numbers.

The series’ debut performance pales in comparison to other Star Wars entries. Obi-Wan Kenobi reached 1.026 billion minutes, and even Andor’s the start of three episodes earned 624 million minutes.

With The Boba Fett book logging 389 million premiere minutes in a single episode, Skeleton crew falls within a similar range despite having double the content.

Jon Watts, who directed Skeleton crewthey had already discussed plans for a potential second season, saying: “We 100% have an idea for a second season and we know what we would do. […] You will grow up with children.”

The approach would involve a time jump of three or four years to reflect the real-life aging of the actors. However, even though viewership has not increased significantly since its debut, the prospect of a continuation remains uncertain.

The ending of Skeleton crew was released recently and for now we can only speculate whether the series has found stronger footing or whether it will remain a one-season experiment.

If The Acolyte back then it didn’t have the viewership numbers to justify the cost of running the show Skeleton crew could suffer the same fate.
