Mel Gibson is looking to film his sequel to THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST next year – “It’s an Acid Trip”

Mel Gibson recently offered an update on his The Passion of Christ followed, revealing that the title is The Resurrection of Christand that he hopes to film it next year.

Gibson spoke about the sequel while a guest on Joe Rogan’s podcast, calling it an acid trip: “Hopefully next year sometime. There’s a lot of need for that because it’s an acid trip.

He went on to say that he had “never read anything like” the script, which Gibson co-wrote with Randall Wallace.

He went on to offer some details: “My brother and I and Randall all got together on this. So there are some good ideas put together, but there are also some crazy things.

“And I think in order to really tell the story properly you really have to start with the fall of the angels, which means you’re in another place, you’re in another realm. You have to go to hell. You must go to the underworld.”

Gibson has said he plans to bring back Jim Caviezel as Jesus. Gibson said he would have to incorporate “some techniques” such as CGI de-aging on Caviezel as it has been more than 20 years since the first film.

Gibson described the film as “very ambitious” and said the story not only covers “the fall of the angels” but also “the death of the last apostle.”

He said: “It’s about finding a way in that isn’t trivial or too obvious. I think I have ideas about how to do that and how to evoke things and emotions in people by the way you describe it and the way you shoot it.

“So I thought about it for a long time. It won’t be easy and will require a lot of planning and I’m not entirely sure I can do it, to tell you the truth, it’s super ambitious.

“But I’m going to try because that’s what you’re supposed to do, right, step up to the plate, right?”

Gibson previously spoke about the film, saying that it’s “not a linear narrative,” adding that “you have to juxtapose the central event that I’m trying to tell with everything that surrounds it in the future and the past and other realms.” , and that’s some science fiction out there.”
