As you may have heard, there have been rumors about this Josh Brolin possibly taking on the role of Clay face in the DCU in the movie that Mike Flanagan developed for DC Studios. Well, a new report suggests that DC Studios is going in a very different direction.
According to insider information, the studio is looking to cast a “much younger” actor for the shape-shifting villain, ending speculation about Brolin’s involvement.
Brolin, who played Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was previously considered for the role of Hal Jordan in Lanterns. Even though he turned down this opportunity, his name has continued to surface as someone James Gunn hopes to bring into the DCU.
Naturally, fans began to wonder if he might be a good fit for Clayface. However, @ApocHorseman of Nexus Point News denied these rumors, explaining that Brolin is not being considered for the part.
The scooper said: “That’s not true,” in response to online speculation. He added: “Like I said, it’s going to be someone much younger. They haven’t even started casting and they won’t until they have a director.
“Someone claims DC still wants Brolin in a role and then everyone assumes he’ll be cast on the next project to start casting.”
While Brolin may still be on DC Studios’ radar for a future role, Clayface will not be. It is said that the search for the villain will begin only after a director is attached to the project.
I should point that out Alan Tudyk He voices Clayface in Commando of creatures animated series and I wonder if he could play the live-action version too.
I know Tudyk isn’t a younger actor, but he’s already been cast to play the animated version of the character, and Gunn has said that the actors he cast for the animated series will also play the live-action versions of these characters. But this may not apply to everyone.
Clayface is one of Batman’s oldest adversaries, first appearing in the 1940s just months after The Joker’s debut. The original iteration, Basil Karlo, was a deranged B-list actor who became a masked killer after being replaced in the role of a character he once played.
Driven by revenge, he targeted the cast of the film shot without him until Batman and Robin stopped his murderous rampage.
Over the decades, the character has evolved. Karlo eventually gained shapeshifting abilities, but many fans are more familiar with the second Clayface, Matt Hagen Batman: The Animated Series. Hagen’s tragic story involved an anti-aging cream that transformed him into a monstrous figure.
There have also been many other versions of the character, including Preston Payne, Sondra Fuller, and others, each of whom brought unique abilities and personalities to the role of Clayface.
DC Studios co-head James Gunn spoke enthusiastically about the Clayface movie, saying it came from a strong pitch from Flanagan.
He said: “I had no intention of making a movie about Clayface. Mike entered. He launched this wonderful idea. I thought, ‘Damn, I can’t believe you made me want to make a Clayface movie.’”
Gunn described the development process as a collaborative process: “He goes and writes the script. The first draft is fantastic. The second draft is even better. And then I say, “Let’s do it.” So we found a place because if there is quality material, we can find a way to work with it.”
THE Clay face the film will be released on September 11, 2026 and it will be interesting to see how he ends up acting in the film. Who would you like to see play the role of Clayface?
