Toho, the production company behind it Godzilla film, is developing a live action film adaptation of the horror video game for Nintendo Switch Exit 8.
The game is a “short-walk simulator inspired by Japanese underground passages, liminal spaces, and back rooms.” It’s like a nightmarish maze, and it’s the second most downloaded Switch game of the year in Japan.
In the game, a player is trapped in a subway station, in an underground passage that follows an infinite loop. To escape to “Exit 8”, the player must continue walking while carefully looking for any anomaly that heralds danger.
The game’s creator, Kotake Create, announced the news on the game’s website, saying, “Exit 8 will be made into a live-action movie!”
“I had no idea that when the game released at the end of November 2023, a film adaptation would be announced about a year later, so I am full of surprise and gratitude.
“When I was asked about the movie, I was wondering how to make a movie about a game without a story, but I think it will be interesting as a movie without destroying the worldview and atmosphere of Exit 8!
“I also visited the filming location, and it was really amazing to see that underground passage and the uncle in front of me! We hope you will look forward to it! I can’t wait for the release too!”
Exit 8 in a live action film, which will be released in theaters next year. The cast and director of the adaptation are also currently under wraps.
