DC fans were disappointed to learn last week that the release of Matt Reeves’ Batman: Part II it was postponed a full year.
Gunn recently took to social media to explain why the film was delayed, and as previously reported, it all boiled down to the fact that there wasn’t a complete script.
When Gunn was asked if the rejected film was true, he said:
“Sure. Yes, that’s true. The only reason for the delay is that there is no complete script (those of you who follow me here probably already know this).
“Opaque [Reeves] he’s committed to making the best movie he can, and no one can accurately guess how long it will take to write a screenplay.
“Once there is a finished script, there are about two years for pre-production, filming and post-production on big films.”
Reeves previously confirmed: “Yes, we’re finishing the script. We will shoot next year. The thing is, for me I feel like it’s not a choice. I always feel like I would never do it the way I’m doing it, except it’s the only way I know how to do it.
He went on to describe writing and filmmaking as navigating a dark room. “Everything you need is in the room, but there are no lights and you’re on your hands and knees. And when something connects with you, you say, “Oh, that’s something.”
At least we know that when the movie actually comes out, it will be the best possible Batman sequel that Reeves could make.
Batman: Part II is now slated for release in October 2027, which is more than five years since the first film’s release in March 2022.
