FX is producing a new series based on the life of infamous mobster Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano and is being developed by Antonio Fuqua (Training day) AND Terenzio Inverno (The Sopranos). The series is titled Sammy the bull.
Gravano was “a member of the Gambino Family, one of the five New York Mafia families. He allegedly began his life in organized crime in the 1960s, becoming involved in crimes such as racketeering, hijacking, theft and murder.
“He was later closely associated with future Gambino crime boss John Gotti and worked with Gotti to kill then-Gambino boss Paul Castellano.
“Gravano rose to the rank of underboss under Gotti, but then became a government witness in 1991. With his testimony against Gotti and other members of the Gambino family, he became one of the highest-ranking Mafia members to ever cooperate with the federal government. “
It looks like it’s going to be a great show, especially with the talent that was brought in to develop the show. Winter will write the series and Fuqua will direct.
There is a beautiful book about Gravano’s life called “Underboss” by Peter Maas. He has also given several interviews about his life in the mafia and currently runs his own YouTube channel.
