SPIDER-MAN 4 Script Overhaul: Kevin Feige Would Be Unhappy, Major Rewrites Underway

The road to Spider-Man 4 has been overloaded with rumors and another one came claiming that Marvel Studios is the president Kevin Feige is unhappy with the current script, requiring significant rewrites that could delay production.

The rumor comes from MTTSH, who say the script is undergoing a substantial overhaul, or potentially will be scrapped altogether. While Tom Holland reportedly likes the story, Feige doesn’t, which leads to big changes.

The source explains: “Now they are rewriting it and changing everything. The script isn’t ready yet and won’t be for a while.”

With a release date set for July 24, 2026 and filming expected to begin mid-2025, there’s still time to stay on schedule. However, if this change is legitimate, it could complicate things, especially since Holland is committed to Christopher Nolan. The Odyssey next year, potentially creating scheduling conflicts.

This wouldn’t be the first fight to end Spider-Man 4. Reports have suggested a tug of war between Feige and Sony president Tom Rothman. Feige is said to prefer to scale back elements of the Multiverse for a more grounded story, while Rothman wants to capitalize on the success of No way home bringing back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield for another hugely successful event.

More recent rumors suggested a compromise: a mostly grounded plot with some Multiversal elements. However, until recently the film was still being described as an “Avengers-level event.”

In a recent interview, Holland spoke about the pressure of following up the massive success of No way home:
“We have the best in the business working for whatever the story is. But until we solve this, we will have a legacy to protect. The third movie was so special in so many ways that we have to make sure we do the right thing.”

If this rumor is true, it looks like they haven’t resolved it yet. While this remains a rumor for now, I’m sure more clarity is expected to come in the new year.
