Franco Grillo he appears to have concluded his run in the MCU, where he played Brock Rumlow, for now, but that has given way to what will apparently be an extended run in the DCU. He signed on to play Rick Flag Sr. in James Gunnit’s the new world of DC, and it begins with Commando of creatureswhich will hit our screens December 5th on MAX.
The adult animated series is set to kick off the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters saga with an entire crew of deadly creatures in a task force led by Rick Flag Sr., who as a character the actor compares to Nick by Samuel L. Jackson Fury.
In an interview with Collider, Grillo gave a rundown of his character in this first chapter of the DCU. He spoke of his “really crucial role” in Peacemaker Season 2, his experience working with Gunn Commando of creaturesand teased what it’s like on the set of Superman and the physical presence of David Corenswetwho Grillo considers an emerging “superstar”.
Grillo said of Rick Flag Sr.’s role in the DCU:
“I have a bit of a Sam Jackson vibe. It’s that kind of thing where it can swing for a while, as in Supermanand they have a fundamental, fundamental, and therefore a more important role, certainly, in PeacemakerA Very crucial role, and then he is the leader of the team Commando of creatures. So, yeah, I don’t know what the future holds, but I think Rick Flag is kind of the head of ARGUS, like the MCU with Jackson. I mean, you never know. It’s a bit infinite.”
He went on to talk about reading the Commando of creatures screenplays and working with James Gunn:
“I’ll tell you, he and Peter sent me all the scripts: I read them in one day and then I re-read them. I wish I could send you the lyrics I sent them because I read a lot of scripts. I don’t get scripts from Steven Zaillian and the top guys in Hollywood, so when they sent me these scripts I was like, “Holy crap.” My thoughts were exactly yours. It’s funny, it’s dirty, it’s sometimes dirty, it’s violent and it’s typical of the moment. I was left speechless. I wish I could send you messages. I must have sent them half a dozen messages, saying, “Guys.” Guys… Gunn, this is awesome.’ I think it’s brilliant. For what it is, it’s brilliant.”
“I learned that he breathes very rarefied air. It’s an outlier. I mean, James Gunn is a brilliant writer and he’s really fun to work with. I read his words and thought, “I don’t need to change any of this.” I told him this a few times during Peacemaker‘Hey, bro, what if I did? Is that OK?’ And he goes, ‘Hmm, try it and let me know.’ And sure as hell, 10 times out of 10 I tried my little solution and was like, ‘No.’ He knows exactly what he’s doing.’ Rare.”
He also spoke briefly Peacemaker Season 2 and go against Giovanni Cena:
“I’ve always fought guys bigger than me, but he’s a big guy. He’s a big guy. We’ll get into it, I won’t give anything away. It’s an interesting thing about Peacemaker and his perspective on my son and what his feelings are about himself because of that. So, we got into some tangles, but I don’t know if people will expect what’s going to happen.
He also talked about what it was like to be on set Superman:
“I wasn’t a superhero kid. I wasn’t a comic book kid, but the only superhero – and I’m talking about the TV show, the original TV show – was Superman. For me he is the definitive and unique superhero, second to perhaps none, and far from that is Batman, right? These are the two superheroes I grew up with. But walking on set and knowing that Gunn was at the helm, even in the capacity I was working in, was a gift. And I’ll tell you this – I hope I don’t get in trouble for this – I peeked at a little bit of the trailer, and I’m not kidding, and I’m not blowing this out of proportion, my skin was warm and I had hot skin. goose. It’s fantastic. By the way, this guy, David [Corenswet]he will become a superstar. A superstar. He’s great, as are the rest of the film’s cast, and it’s very much James’ point of view. I think it will be THE movie.”
We have a lot to look forward to from James Gunn’s DCU. Stay tuned for more information on all the great movies and shows that are coming your way.
