Kevin Smith has revealed that he is developing a sequel to his 1999 comedy classic Dogma. He made the announcement in his Confessional Dogma on Sunday at the Vulture Festival, which marked the 25th anniversary of Dogma.
In fact we might even see Ben Affleck AND Matt Damon they reprise their roles as Bartleby and Loki in the film!
Smith said: “Some people will say, ‘Don’t fucking touch it. You’re going to ruin it and I’m here to tell you: I will. I’m damn tickled. I found a way in.
The director seems very confident that Affleck and Damon will reprise their roles, and highlighted the fact that he helped save Affleck and Damon’s 1997 film. Good hunting willwithout so much as a thank you in their speeches at the Golden Globes and Oscars, and they are indebted to him.
He continued, “I’ve been able to keep it in both of our heads for 25 fucking years, which is why they keep appearing in all the movies.
“Expect a cameo from them – more than a damn cameo. The only way they’ll make a sequel to Dogma is if they’re there. So count on those guys that are there.
The original film follows two fallen angels, Loki (Damon) and Bartleby (Affleck), who are banished from Paradise and try to return by exploiting a gap in Catholic dogma. If they succeed, however, they will obliterate all existence.
To stop them, a group of unlikely heroes gathers, including a reluctant abortion clinic worker named Bethany (Linda Fiorentino), who is the last scion of the lineage of Christ, and two prophets, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith).
It will be interesting to see what kind of story Smith comes up with for the sequel! Are you excited to hear that Smith is making a sequel? Dogma?
