Sydney Sweeney slams Hollywood’s stance that ‘women empower women,’ saying ‘it’s all false’

Sydney Sweeneybest known for her roles in Euphoria, THE White Lotus, Anyone but youAND Immaculate is calling out some people in the Hollywood industry who trash another woman in private while publicly proclaiming that they are empowering women.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the actress said that the industry’s attitude that “women empower other women” is false.

“It’s really disheartening to see women tear down other women. Especially when women who are successful in other parts of their industry see younger talent working really hard, hoping to achieve whatever dreams they may have, and then trying to criticize and discredit whatever work they have done.

He continued:

“Everyone says the whole industry is ‘Women empower other women.’ None of this is happening. It’s all fake and a cover up for all the other bullshit they say behind everyone’s back.

Sweeney noted that there are “so many studies and different opinions on the reasons behind it” and said that “it’s a generational problem to believe that only a woman can be at the top.”

«There is a woman who can capture the man. There’s a woman who can be, I don’t know, anything. So everyone else feels like they have to fight each other or tear that woman down instead of saying, “Let’s all lift each other up.” I’m still trying to figure it out. I’m just doing my best here. Why am I being attacked?”

Earlier this year, producer Carol Baum said at an event that Sweeney “wasn’t pretty” and “didn’t know how to act,” adding that her film Anyone but you it was “unwatchable”. According to the Daily Mail, Baum said:

“There’s an actress everyone loves now: Sydney Sweeney. I don’t understand Sydney Sweeney. I was watching the Sydney Sweeney movie on the plane [‘Anyone but You’] because I wanted to watch it. I wanted to know who she is and why everyone is talking about her. I watched this unwatchable movie: I feel sorry for the people who love this romantic comedy where they hate each other.

Baum, who teaches at USC, continued:

“I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so sexy?’ Nobody had an answer. But then the question was asked, “Well, if you could make your own movie because she was in it, would you?” … This is a very difficult question to answer because we all want the movie to get made and who walks away from the green light? Nobody I know. Your job is to make the film.

It’s really gross of that lady to say that in a public setting. We all have our favorite actors and those we don’t care for, but going that hard on someone is simply pointless. It’s hard enough being a young woman, or man, standing out in Hollywood with all the competition and comparison.

Good for Sweeney for calling out her haters, hopefully it makes women in Hollywood who are truly willing to lend a helping hand to others want to reach out and be more supportive of Sweeney and the other young actors out there.
