Jason Rietman and Finn Wolfhard team up for a remake of the 1999 horror comedy IDLE HANDS

Finn Wolfhard (Stranger things) AND Billy Bryk are set to write a remake of the 1999 horror comedy Idle Hands for Sony Pictures, and Jason Reitmann it is destined to produce.

Wolfhard and Bryk may also end up directing the film after their hit film sells to the film festival One hell of a summerwhich they co-wrote, co-directed, starred in and produced.

Reitman had previously worked with Wolfhard and Bryk on these two Ghostbusters films and those recently released Saturday evening. Gil Keenan will also produce.

The original film follows the story of Anton Tobias, a lazy, stoned teenager whose right hand becomes possessed and goes on a murderous rampage.

Anton is desperate to stop his hand from killing people on its own, starting with his parents and best friends. He tries to contain the hand’s violent impulses, but things spiral further out of control when his hand detaches completely and takes on a life of his own.

With the help of his revived friends and his beloved Molly, Anton attempts to put an end to the carnage. The film blends slapstick comedy, gore, and campy horror, creating a cult classic known for its irreverent tone and tongue-in-cheek approach to the “possessed hand” cliché.

I imagine the remake will tell the same story in a different, more contemporary way. This sounds like a project the creative team will have fun with.
