Roland Emmerich (independence Day, GodzillaAND Those who are about to die) AND Marco Weber (The thirteenth floor) are developing a live-action TV series based on the Web3 role-playing game Space Nation Online.

Space Nation Inc. says in a statement: “The series will trace the origins of the epic story that began with the recent soft launch of Space Nation Online, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that sends players into a distant world. ” star cluster in which humanity has established itself following the destruction of the Earth”.

The series will be developed and produced by Emmerich and Weber, who also founded Space Nation alongside the game developers. Jerome Wu AND Tony Tang.

Weber says: “We want to take an approach that fits into the overall philosophy of what we’re doing with the game, with our economy.

“We could sell a second window to one of the streamers, but all on a licensing basis. We’re not looking for a streamer to come in and purchase the IP outright. And our goal is to be able to finance a significant part of the budget ourselves through our economy and our token.”

They wanted the company to focus on “one-of-a-kind transmedia IPs spanning gaming, online content and TV/streaming.” They are also supported by $50 million in funding.

Emmerich said: “I came to this project through Marco and he was very excited about it, and whatever he’s excited about, I’m excited about it too.

“We talked about the fact that I need to develop my own [Web3] spaceships, etc., etc. And so there’s the option to buy a spaceship that I designed, but that’s just one of the many, many things that we offer.

“What we want to offer is also a TV show. A TV show that shows the origin of this whole situation, why aliens came to Earth, destroyed the Earth and we had to go into space.”

Weber added: “One of the things that Jerome, Tony, Roland and I wanted to make sure from the beginning is that people realize that this is a very solid, long-term story that we want to develop.

“This includes first and foremost the game, the platform that we have built, and that now, in the next step, will include some transmedia IPs that we want to develop so that all users can see that this is not a quick cash grab, where people they try to flip a token promising a game and then they’re out.

“It’s just the opposite. We launched the game with an investment of almost $50 million through the management buyout and the funding that we raised from VCs and investors, and we haven’t gone and launched the token or anything like that yet, because we want to stabilize the ecosystem first, and that’s our main concern at this point. And we’re doing pretty well.”

Before the launch of Space Nation Online, Emmerich, Weber and director Martin Weisz (The hills have eyes 2) released a series of free animated shorts focusing on the character Zoey (voiced and played by the actress Winona Weber), a teenage alien space pirate and his ill-fated attempts to go viral online.

Space Nation Online write in leadrJess Lebow and Weber joined as co-writers. A spin-off of the shorts is also currently in development.
