First footage from the KARATE KID: LEGENDS screens and here are the details

The first trailer for the film was released this weekend at New York Comic-Con Karate Kid: Legendshero Ralph Macchio, Jackie ChanAND Ben Wang (Chinese born in America), who plays a new student named Li Fong. Macchio returns as Daniel LaRusso, who he played in the 1984 original Karate Kid trilogy of films and subsequently revived in Netflix Cobra Kai series.

Chan also returned as Mr. Han, the kung fu master based on Mr. Miyagi, who was a trainer Jaden Smith’s Dre Parker in 2010 Karate Kid remake.

The trailer was shown exclusively to New York Comic-Con audiences and was reported to suggest intense karate action featuring the three protagonists.

Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso arrives in Beijing, where Chan’s Mr. Han has been looking for him. Han has a new protégé, Li Fong, and he is his mentor, just as Mr. Miyagi was to Daniel, Han explains.

He and Daniel narrate the trailer, and it’s clear that the two will have to work together to train Li Fong, but will their teaching styles match?

The trailer shows plenty of fighting scenes on the streets and in a dojo, including some sort of new karate tournament that was briefly teased. In one particularly impressive moment, Li Fong fights a bully in an alley by leaping off a fire escape and throwing himself off the wall.

Like the star of Chinese born in AmericaWang has some experience with stunts and it definitely shows in the trailer.

After Chan and Macchio announced a worldwide search that included thousands of young actors around the world, Wang was chosen for the role thanks to his extraordinary performance and deep connection to the character.

Wang is skilled in several forms of martial arts, including karate, wing chun/kung fu, gumdo, kempo and taekwando.

Ming-Na Wenknown for Mulan AND The club of joy and luckwill play Wang’s character’s mother. Joshua Jackson AND Sadie Stanley will also appear in the film.

Jonathan Entwistlethe creator and director of Netflix I’m not okay with this AND The end of the damn worldwill direct the film from a screenplay by Pietro Coniglio scribe Rob Lieber. Karen Rosenfelt will produce.

Karate Kid: Legends will be released in theaters on May 30, 2025. I’d be willing to bet that we’ll see the trailer for ourselves very soon.
