Werewolf at night was a really great project for Marvel Studios and ushered in the whole supernatural monster element of the MCU. Unfortunately, Marvel let it go and didn’t make any follow-up horror/monster projects.
The black and white Halloween special truly paid homage to the classic monster movies of the 40s and 50s with its noir style, dark and creepy atmosphere and high levels of terror.
There was so much to play with here and Marvel has yet to return to this monster-filled sandbox. I was eagerly waiting for Marvcl to follow this up with another Halloween special, and according to the director Michele Gioacchinosooner or later it will happen.
While a guest on Brandon Davis’ YouTube show, Giacchino offered an update, saying, “A lot has happened in the industry and everyone is recalibrating. I think certain things need to be put aside for now. We’ll get there.”
Speaking previously about a possible sequel, Giacchino said: “It’s always talked about. But you know, until someone decides to spend a penny, nothing happens yet.
“So, hopefully. My wish is that yes, there was more with these characters. I’d love to, and I have ideas about what I’d like to do with them, and it’s all crazy, but I think it’s the only way to do it. So hopefully one day. Hopefully one day.”
Fingers crossed that it happens sooner or later! It would be a shame if Marvel didn’t do more with this monster horror corner of the universe.
