Josh Brolin recently commented that he was offered the role of Hal Jordan in DC Studios’ HBO series Lanterns, based on DC Comics’ Green Lantern.
As you know, he passed on the role and we learned that not long after Kyle Chandler (Stirpe, Friday Night Lights) was in talks to join the series.
During a recent interview, Brolin admitted that things “didn’t work out” and also commented on the news of Chandler’s casting.
The actor told CB: “You know what? Green Lantern didn’t work, but that’s okay. It’s working. Who will it be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he’s wonderful, actually. And, you know, we’ll see what happens, man.
Brolin offers no explanation as to why he passed up the role, but I think Chandler is a great choice for Hal Jordan. I’m excited about that casting and I think he’ll do a great job if they can work out the deal.
The series will focus on new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, “two intergalactic cops caught up in a dark Earth mystery as they investigate a murder in the heartland of America.”
Lanterns Hal Jordan’s version has also been described as a grizzled, veteran Green Lantern, and the series is said to take cues from the likes of HBO True detective.
The project is developed by Ozarks‘S Chris Mundy, Guardians‘S Damon Lindelofand comic book writer Tom King.
Speaking about the eight-episode series, DC Studios co-presidents and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran said: “John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective. story that is a key part of the unified DCU that we launch next summer with Superman.
