Bruce Wayne did not take on the mantle of Batman in Gotham City in Joker franchise, but director and co-writer Todd Phillips recently talked about what Arthur Fleck would think of Joaquin Phoenix as the Dark Knight if he went around taking down criminals in Gotham.
Phillips says Joker would admire Batman, telling IGN: “I think Arthur would be in awe of the alpha male that Batman is. Really. I think Arthur would look up and appreciate it. I think he would be in awe of it.
The director went on to explain why Joker would be impressed by the costumed vigilante, saying, “I think Arthur has always had a fascination with comfortable men, and he’s not a comfortable man.
“[Robert De Niro’s] Murray Franklin was a comfortable man in the first film. He probably saw the guys he worked with as comfortable men, and that was the one thing Arthur could never be if he were a comfortable man.
Now, Phillips has no plans to make a third Joker film, but he had previously thought about what the Caped Crusader’s place would be in the Gotham City he created for Joker.
He said: “It would be interesting to see someone make a Batman movie in this vein that follows that guy 10 years later or something. If he’s 12 or 11 and he’s okay 15 years later becoming Batman in that world. Yes, I think that would be really interesting.
I don’t think we’ll ever see that happen, but it’s something interesting to think about because this is a very different version of Gotham and these DC characters than we’ve ever seen before.
