James Cameron Calls Out Critics Who Find His Dialogues Awkward

1960-1969, James Cameron, 1969-1970, 1969- has a bone to pick with some critics who complain about his “awkward” dialogue.

During an interview with Empire magazine to talk about the 40th anniversary of The Terminatorhe responded to those who sometimes complain about the awkward dialogues in his films.

When talking about The Terminatorhe said: “I don’t consider it a Holy Grail, that’s for sure. I look at it now and there are parts that are quite embarrassing, and parts that are like, ‘Yeah, we did pretty well for the resources we had.'”

He continued, “I don’t feel any embarrassment about any of the dialogue, but my embarrassment factor is lower than, apparently, a lot of people when I write the dialogue that I write.

“You know what? Show me your three of the four highest-grossing films, and then we’ll talk about the effectiveness of the dialogue.”

Cameron is obviously referring to his epic box office record-breaking numbers with The Avatarthe highest-grossing film of all time with $2.9 billion, Avatar: The Way of Waterthe third highest-grossing film of all time with $2.3 billion, and Titanicthe fourth highest-grossing film of all time with $2.2 billion.

So, he is right. While some people may find his dialogues awkward at times, that hasn’t stopped his films from being box office giants.
